Landscape Photography

As one of the most rewarding forms of photography, landscape deserved a special place on our blog. As you all know, landscape photography is all about capturing moments from nature and the outdoors and bringing your audience to the scene. Personally, we find landscape photos the most stunning. Whether you love to see mountains covered in snow and picture yourself in some cozy chair with mulled wine and a good book, or you are a summer type and seeing waves associates you with surfing and tanning, you will find landscape enjoyable. We have put a list of tips for you to improve your landscape photography skills. Remember, even if you’re a pro photographer, there’s always more to learn.

  1. Plan where to go

Of course, you can choose any place for your landscape photography. As long as you’re outdoors, it’s alright. However, not just any place will look as magical. If you want to create a photography that will make an impression and really put the viewer in the right place, you need to choose the right place first. Start by researching locations nearby, and look for something that stands out. For better success, you can use Google Maps. Sometimes it will show you good viewpoints for taking photos.

  1. Plan when to go

Besides knowing where you are going, you should know when to go. If you want to take a photo of a beach landscape, sunset or sunrise are the most representable moments. Without too much crowd, with tremendous colors, and with some unique vibe, these hours will improve your photo by themselves. It’s not just about the hour. It’s about the time of the year that can determine a lot about the look of your photo.

  1. Choose the best camera for landscape photography

Alright, here comes the classic. As you need a proper camera and lens for wedding photography or portraits, you need the best camera for landscapes as well. Our recommendation would be a camera with a full-frame sensor and wide-angle lens, so you can capture everything you see and capture it good. For the sharpest landscapes, you can try shooting at f/16 or f/22. Having the ability to zoom and focus is also extremely important when shooting landscape shots, so find the best option you have and start your trip.

  1. Graduate filters

Yes, using filters can make your photo stunning, but what happens when filters are too strong? When the colors are completely destroyed? Again, we come to the rule “less is more.” Sometimes, mother nature gives us what we need. Therefore, make sure to graduate your filters and use them as necessary.

  1. Include people or animals in your shots

Even though you’re capturing nature, adding people or wildlife in your photo can just point out nature more. Of course, you shouldn’t focus on them, but having them present, out of focus, can change the entire image. Seeing a person in the scene makes it easier for your viewers to imagine themselves there.

Hopefully, these tips will be helpful, and your photos will look better than ever. Grab your equipment and start the journey!
